Mold: what to know
The scary M word, mold, may not be as scary as we think. Here is a rundown of this strange fungus and how to avoid any hazards associated with it.
Common indoor molds found inside include aspergillus, cladosporium, and stachybotrys atra (aka black mold). The first two are often not lethal and easily manageable. Though these molds are not toxic, they may trigger allergic reactions and irritation. The third, stachybotrys atra or black mold, is often believed to be dangerous and deadly. However, there have been no conclusive studies indicating a correlation between exposure to black mold and serious negative health effects.
In order to avoid health complications of any sort, here are some tips to keep your home mold free. Oftentimes mold grows where conditions are consistently damp and often with warmer temperatures. Changing the conditions within your space will be the best way to stop growth.
We recommend you keep your area dry. This is the best way to minimize the spread of mold. Often growing where there is both moisture and heat, removing excess moisture from the area will slow or stop the growth. Use a dehumidifier for the best results and repair any structural issues that may contribute to moisture indoors.
It is important to control these spores before they contribute to any respiratory issues. While black mold has never been proven to contribute to health issues, Mycotoxicoses
are ailments suffered by humans or animals who ingest toxic metabolites produced by certain fungi. Mycotoxic infections have not been found to lead to death however over prolonged periods of time do impact important bodily functions. Health issues are costly and never something to mess with.
